Expedition Cruises with AE Expeditions
From the start, AE Expeditions was destined to be different. Co-founders Greg and Margaret Mortimer had a passion for adventure, exploring wild places and sharing the experience with friends and in 1991, AE Expeditions, named in honour of Sir Douglas Mawson’s ship, was born.
Their aim was simple - to take small groups of travellers on voyages of discovery to regions that inspired them, thereby creating lifelong ambassadors for the preservation and protection of these sacred places. More than two decades later, that pioneering spirit burns just as brightly, as does their preference for small-group, personal expeditions.

Discover AE Expeditions' Ships
With a nod to their exploration-inspired roots, AE Expeditions aptly named each of their expedition ships after pioneers in exploration, science and conservation. The Greg Mortimer is names after the cruise line's co-founder and famous mountaineer Greg Mortimer, while their second ship Sylvia Earle is named after Dr Sylvia Earle, world-renowned oceanographer and explorer. Their third and newest ship, Douglas Mawson, honours the legendary Australian geologist and explorer and is set to launch in 2025.
All ships have been expertly designed to traverse the furthest and most obscure regions of the earth and feature the ULSTEIN X-Bow®, enabling faster and smoother sailings whilst reserving fuel consumption.
From Jacuzzis and heated pools to dedicated access points for zodiacs and multiple observation platforms, every aspect of these spectacular ships have been designed to the finest of details, promising a phenomenal experience every time you step on board.

At sea, all of their Antarctica and Arctic expeditions are on purpose-built small ships with a maximum capacity of 130-passengers onboard. They are one of the only companies operating trips of this size.
