Andean Condors

Andean condors are among the most iconic birds of South America, soaring high above the wide regions of the Andes with remarkable ease. With wingspans that can exceed three metres, they rely on rising air currents to glide for hours across mountain ridges and deep valleys. As scavengers, Andean Condors play an essential ecological role, maintaining balance in some of the continent’s most remote environments.

They are present throughout the year, with early mornings often offering the best chance of seeing them as they leave their cliffside roosts in search of food. Observing an Andean condor in flight is one of the most striking wildlife moments the continent has to offer.
