Musk Ox

The musk ox is one of the oldest animals on the planet, dating back to the Ice Age, hence their prehistoric appearance. They are found around remote regions of the Arctic and are easily recognisable with their shaggy coat that helps them to survive the region’s intense cold climate. East Greenland and the Canadian High Arctic are the best regions to spot musk oxen on an expedition cruise, particularly around Scoresby Sound and Ellesmere Island. You’ll most likely spot them feeding on the tundra slopes from a Zodiac tour during the summer months between June and August when the snow has melted, increasing their activity.
